Formal reporting procedures will be undertaken at appropriate stages during the year including regular additions to the children's Learning Journals and through the end of year report.

Please note: A parent or a teacher may request an interview any time throughout the year at a mutually convenient time to share concerns and celebrations.

Procedures put into place as a result of assessment and reporting policy:

Term One
• Learning journals sent home (see footnote 1)
• Written statements detailing achievement in literacy / numeracy
• Introductory meeting

Term Two
• Learning Journals sent home
• Parent/teacher/child interview (1) - as per request
• NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy [Victorian Government initiative for grade three and five children] (dates to be confirmed)

Term Three

• Learning Journals sent home

Term Four
• Learning Journals sent home
• Written report completed
• Interviews by request of parent, teacher or child.

Footnote 1: Learning Journals are sent home before the end of term. They are a collection of children's work, child reflections, teacher reflections and goals set. Each sample of work contains a "nutshell" comment that explains the context in which it was complete. It may also contain teacher and child comments. The learning Journal may contain a general overview of what has been taught for the term. The Learning Journals provide parents with the opportunity to evaluate and reflect on their child's learning.

Information sessions are also provided at the beginning of each year.

LEARNING JOURNALS

At St. Aloysius' School, we see our Learning Journals as growing to be an effective communication between the partners in the children's learning parents/children/teachers.

As with the children and parents, teachers are creating their own processes and objectives to suit what they see as the purpose and future of our journals across the school. These ideally, will grow and change as the process develops.

We hope to include:
• Your statements about your hopes and dreams for the child/children
• Your child's/children's expressed goals
• Relevant work samples from all learning areas
• Awards
• Work children are particularly proud of which reflects their strengths and indicates development
• Children's self-evaluations
• Teacher's evaluations and opportunities for comments from parents.

We hope this process enhances our whole communication in teaching and learning and evaluation. Our Learning Journals represent a frame-by-frame continuum of each child's individual progress and we the staff consider them to be a valuable and treasured documentation of your child's life at St. Aloysius' School.
